Frosty the Scrap Yarn Crochet Purse - Free Pattern

Frosty the Scrap Yarn Crochet Purse


Materials


• 5mm crochet hook

• Worsted weight yarn in various colors (main color: white)

• Buttons (or use black yarn for cheeks if replacing buttons)

• Scissors

• Darning needle

• Sewing needle & thread


Stitches Used


Ch: Chain

Ss: Slip Stitch

Sc: Single Crochet

HDC: Half Double Crochet

DC: Double Crochet

HDC Inc: Half Double Crochet Increase (2 HDC in same stitch)


Pattern Instructions


Head (Make 2)


With white yarn:


1. R1: Make a magic ring, Ch 1, 12 HDC into the ring, Ss to close. (12 sts)

Pull center tail to close the ring.

2. R2: Ch 1, HDC Inc in each st around, Ss to close. (24 sts)

3. R3: Ch 1, HDC Inc, HDC 1, repeat around, Ss to close. (36 sts)

4. R4: Ch 1, HDC Inc, HDC 2, repeat around, Ss to close. (48 sts)

Leave a long tail for sewing.


Body (Make 2)


With white yarn:


1. R1: Make a magic ring, Ch 1, 12 HDC into the ring, Ss to close. (12 sts)

Pull center tail to close the ring.

2. R2: Ch 1, HDC Inc in each st around, Ss to close. (24 sts)

3. R3: Ch 1, HDC Inc, HDC 1, repeat around, Ss to close. (36 sts)

4. R4: Ch 1, HDC Inc, HDC 2, repeat around, Ss to close. (48 sts)

5. R5: Ch 1, HDC Inc, HDC 3, repeat around, Ss to close. (60 sts)

Leave a long tail for sewing.




Nose


With orange yarn:


1. Ch 6, turn, Ss in 2nd ch from hook, Sc in next, HDC 2, DC in last ch.

Leave a long tail for sewing.


Cheeks (Make 2)


With pink yarn:


1. Make a magic ring, Ch 1, 6 Sc into the ring, Ss to close.

Pull center tail tight and leave a long tail for sewing.


Hat


With black yarn:


1. R1: Ch 12, turn, skip 1st ch, Sc across (11 sts), fasten off leaving a long tail.

2. R2: Count to the 3rd st from the right and reattach yarn. Sc 7, Ch 1, turn.

3. R3-12: Sc 7, Ch 1, turn.

4. R13: Sc 3, Ch 1 (buttonhole), Sc 3, continue working around the edges:

• Ch 1 for each corner, Sc around entire brim.

• Ss to close, fasten off.


Arms (Make 2)


With brown yarn:


1. Ch 14 + 4, turn.

2. Ss into 2nd ch from hook, Ss next 3 sts, Ch 4, turn, Ss in 2nd ch from hook, Ss next 5, Ch 2, Ss in 2nd ch.

3. Continue Ss across remaining sts, fasten off.


Assembly Instructions



1. Front & Back Pieces:

• Sew the head and body circles together, overlapping by a few rows.

• Place all facial features and secure.


2. Joining:

• Stack front and back pieces.

• Attach yarn below the hat, (Below picture is showing where to bring in the yarn below the hat, and how you would SC through the front and back pieces. PLEASE only pull yarn in on the front piece to start)


Sc 3 stitches on the front piece, then Sc around both pieces. Keep going down the head, around the body, then up the other side of the head.


  • When you have 3 st's left before the hat, stop joining the front and the back pieces and just crochet the front piece for the last 3 st's.


• Leave the top unsewn for the purse opening, Ss, and fasten off.


3. Button Closure:


• Attach a button on the back of the head to align with the hat’s buttonhole.





4. Scarf:

• Ch desired length, cut with a few extra inches for fringe.

5. Strap:

• Ch desired length, Ss back across for a thin strap or Sc/HDC/DC for thicker. Attach to snowman.



Finishing Touches


Sew in all ends and enjoy your Scrap Yarn Snowman Purse!
